I''m considering going to CM Ixtapa where I''ve never been. Is it mostly a family club? where are most of the people from, i.e. Americans? Do they have good snorkling and tennis? Is it far away from the airport? can you walk to the town or is the club isolated? We are a middle aged couple, active. I''ve been to Col. Isle (mostly French and French Canadians) and Turks (we don''t want to go back there this year). We''d be going 2nd half of March. Thanks for your comments! Robin in NYC

We were at Ixtapa for the grand reopening about 20 months ago. Tennis is OK, snorkeling is out at Ixtapa island which we found to be disappointing (after snorkeling in the Caribbean). It's a very family/kids oriented village, but adults can have fun also, but you must be prepared to "co-exist" with a lot of kids. Cannot really walt to "town", but there are some sites of interest within walkind distance, including a little harbor, a long beach, and a vendor/sales area. I wouldn't call the village "isolated", at least not like Columbus Isle, perhaps a little less so than Turkoise. Lots of Americans, some Latin Americans, a few (very few) Europeans. It's about a 25 - 30 minute ride from airport, depending on traffic, of course. For a trip report and lots of pictures, see my web site: www.hammocktree.us/ms/trips.html and scroll down to the Ixtape trip. Amateur GO ( Professional GM ) http://www.hammocktree.us/amateurgos.jpg

Agree with AmateurGO on everything. I was there April 2008 right after renovation.
Beautiful village. Lot's of younger families with toddlers or babies. Younger than Cancun, where you would see older couples and families. Cancun is also a more active village, have you considered it?
Ixtapa food was excellent, better than most Club Meds, with lots of Mexican specialties. The breakfast huevos rancheros bar was to die for.
Terrific, nearly private beach. Long and wide, good for running or walking.
There is a second "adult" pool where hardly anyone goes. Small, but nice to have.
Ixtapa is quite a ways from any sort of town - 15-20 minutes by car.

Agree with all said above (sorry I missed this when you first posted it). We were there early May 2008 - it is a beautiful village. Snorkeling at Ixtapa Island was bad when we were there- too much surf. There were not a lot of little kids when we were there, but the mini club is adorable. The kayaking was superb because the bay is sheltered by Ixtapa Island. They had the most amazing furniture around the pool - really comfy. There were things that looked like wicker sofas, but they were long (as in feet up, like a double chaise). It was hot around the pool - the beach had plenty of shade and cushions on the chairs. Locals did "share" the beach on weekends.
The rooms were beautiful - ours was right above the second little pool. The food really was great. We od'ed on guacamole.
We asked permission to do mini golf after dinner one night and they accommodated us - lots of fun.
Be happy to answer any other questions. We had a blast there. Susan

Hi there, I'm trying to plan our first trip to Ixtapa Club Med for Summer 2011. We are terribly excited! Can anyone tell me if it's better to book reservations through an agent or through ClubMed.com...or does it not make much difference? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MamaRoach

You'll get more personal service from an independent travel agent - plus I have found that a travel agent can work better air deals with Club Med (flight times, variety of itinerary). The prices will be the same.

Hi
Our family was there in March. It was our first time. We usually go to Cancun or Punta Cana Pros: beautifull settings, gorgeous sunsets, great mini club- baby club, the weather was hot hot hot. Quiet ( far from the main hotel zone ) Food was good. My eldest son prefers the Carwash in Cancun There is rock climbing. However there is no more minigolf or in line skating. There are constructing a convention center ( right side if the the club , near Inguana ) so ask to be on the left side of the club. Great spa Great group of GOs A la carte restaurant. You have to reserve the day before and there are not always open Bring mosquito repellent and a ton of high high SPF
Cons: not all the rooms have balconies ( less than one third ) ¸ The reception desk was so and so Shows nothing to remember except for the trapeze show The water is not the same than in the Carribean
Will I go back: maybe. It is difficult to go there from the East Coast. It is easier to go to Cancun or PC. However , everybody was freezing on the East Coast and we had a beautiful weather
There was a lot of Canadian during our stay and the club was half empty, which was nice
Enjoy
